Vital are the tools that allow for breaking down complex writing processes and ideas for a wide range of students, such as Ms. Hippie's book. English language learners, Special Education students and inexperienced students will benefit from the color coded, hands on activities that help create simple outlines and put them into polished paragraphs. As students move through the process of taking general ideas to more specific details, Ms. Hippie has activities that have students sort general categories to more specific, and further specific terms. Examples of animals, foods, modes of transportation and recognizable things that can scaffold into the more abstract details students need to enhance their writing.

Ms. Hippie has note outline templates, color coding techniques for topic sentences, in text markings as well as how to access the mail idea and details from expository writings. I found this volume very helpful in my high school courses, and believe most teachers looking for some hands-on tools and activities will as well.

I have been out of school for 30 years at least with 2 Doctorates. Would love to have had this back in the day. What I need is a note taking strategies for Speeches / sermons. Not so much for grades but for my own learning use. Good book for help in the college. Yes, I don't like students asking is that going to be on the test.

God bless this writer for figuring out how to teach note-taking in a methodical and strategic manner. I cannot wait to apply her methods this school year. I highly recommend this book to all language arts teachers in grades 4-8.

NOT ACCURATE DEPICTION OF AUSTRALIA

This book, advertised as an ABC on Australia. DO NOT purchase this book as a gift if you think it will be depicting Australia accurately. The research is mostly accurate, but any Australian would know that some of the depictions are ridiculous. Strine! Nobody I know refers to the English they speak as Strine, this is hilarious. The flag - 6 states and 2 territories does not add up to the points on the star and every Australian child knows this! Mob - although this is a large group of kangaroos, when a person refers to a mob, it is very rarely about kangaroos. This is THE most disappointing children's book purchase I have made. I wanted a book reflecting my country to give as a gift to friends to help explain Australia, what I found was some truth and some colorful pictures scattered with inaccuracies. It is disappointing, now I do not trust any of the other books in the Country ABC series, what is accurate what is not? I can't give someone a gift and then have to sit with them and explain - well this isn't really true!

A pioneering work

This is the best and only book about Vietnam War movies written while the war was still going on (i.e., before Apocalypse Now, Rambo II, etc.) As such, it is a unique view of how we Americans actually saw the war at the time, without the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. More importantly, this book is a lot of fun to read, thanks to the author's unique sense of humor.
