A disappointing, almost lazy finish to what had promise

I really enjoyed the first two books, and immediately read this third installment. It was such a let down. First, the book feels like it's mostly dialogue. There's very little action, and it's mostly the characters solving problems by talking it out. With such an exciting premise that had a lot of potential it was very disappointing. The intriguing idea of mythical gods among us was brilliant, but Card drove the potential into the dirt. Second, he takes it from being an interesting fantasy tale into strong religious territory and you lose the core of what the story was, and could have been because Card is so busy trying to force it to become a Mormon allegory. The conflicts are resolved so easily and with such little effort that it almost becomes boring.

Don't waste your time

Honestly I didn't like it that much. I read both of the previous novels and loved them. Made it so that I couldn't wait for this one. The story line wasn't very interesting at all. Card's handling of the characters seemed very inept. Like where Danny took away all of Hermia's gates in the prior novel and then just out of the blue he decided to trust her again and teach her how to teleport without gates and oh wait!! She betrays him again. It was almost like reading a boring book of philosophy. Explaining the afterlife and "God" and evil spirits. Or at least that world's version of them. The one interesting story line that I really liked was when Danny's family started helping the American military by making their weapons almost invincible and then that story line went bye bye fast and was never developed more. Just a very bad ending to the trilogy.

It's a wrap

This book wraps up the series. I found it to be an interesting series and this book was not an exception although it is the weakest of the series. The first 60% is the best of the book. The devices used to close out the storyline were logical choices. The ending arrived at came a little too close to " they all logically decided it was time to play nice and live happily ever after.
