Very helpful to learn intricate jazz vocal techniques

This book and CD has really helped me jump from a good singer to a technical vocalist in jazz. Read the music as you hear her perform, and you will see how masterful she is. The songs are great and her style is unique but helpful in finding your own. If you are an intermediate vocalist and want to make the leap to advanced- buy this book.

The Names of God

I actually have the first printing of this book. I re-ordered a new copy because my old copy is worn out. Of all the books in my spiritual library, I use The Names of God the most. Marily Hickey is a very informative speaker and mentor. The information in her book, The Names of God, has helped my spiritual growth and personal relationship with God my Father. My favorite name of all is ELOHIM.

Understanding the Names of God

Marilyn Hickey has compiled a wonderful book, especdially for people like me who are novices when it comes to the Bible. I am hungry for His Word, but I was always confounded by the vast array of names that our pastors use when referring to God. So this was an excellent resource for me -- and all scripture based info. I took notes and have written down the 19 names she explained. Thank you Marilynj Hickey -- you are an excellent evangelist and a good writer too!

In this wonderful, imaginative book, the author keeps to most of the historical record, but asserts that after the death of her brother, Arthur, Eleanor was spirited away to safety by William the Marshal. The story starts in the present day, and details the efforts of a descendent of Marshal to find the lineal descendent of Eleanor, who would be the de jure Queen of England. The story weaves back and forth between the present day and 13th century England, and is absolutely riveting. If you like English history, and especially if you like what-if situations, this is a great book.

I am not a fan of the literary device of having a modern person return to an earlier time in history. That is particularly true for this book which uses this technique to move the narrator from modern Ireland back to England at the time of Bad Old King John I and the signing of the Magna Carta. I completely agree with other reviewers who state that the "modern" portion of this work is superfluous to the meat of the story, adding very little to the main tale and serving as meaningless filler for a story that would better stand on its own. Costain has a deserved reputation as an able writer of historical fiction (Black Rose, Silver Chalice), but this one is simply not up to his usual excellent standards. The plot involves Tostig, a commoner, (hence the "below the salt" title indicating persons of less than noble standing who ate at the lower end of the long dining tables of the day) whose service to his lord involves him in many historic events of the time, including the signing of Magna Carta. Written in 1957 at the height of the Soviet Union's domination of Eastern Europe, Costain keeps underscoring his theme of the unfairness of most of the population living under the tyranny of the select few as having been true in the 1200s and remaining true at the time of his writing. He interweaves his political themes into the story of the travails of Eleanor of Brittany and her captivity during John's reign. The historical facts as depicted here regarding her life are false apart from her imprisonment itself, but the portrait of the last Plantagenet princess is well drawn. Overall, I was not enthusiastic about resuming the read after taking a break. Not indicative of a great book.

The beginning of my love affair with the Middle Ages

I first came across this book on my mother's bookshelf when I was about 12 years old. An inveterate bookworm, I started reading, and could not stop. I have read this book many times over the ensuing 27 years, most recently two weeks ago. The story is still riveting, and parts of it can still move me to tears. As a result of reading this book, I actually went to the field of Runnymede when I was a student in England in 1981. The bus driver was sure that, as an American, I'd be wanting the JFK memorial just over the hill, but I assured him that I was bound for Runnymede. It it lovely and empty and still, except for a small stone monument, erected by the American Bar Association, celebrating the Magna Carta as the beginning of real freedom for all men under law. Had I not read this book, I might never have made the effort to visit.
I enjoyed the characters immensely and, while I have over time read other books just as compelling, and with perhaps grittier writing, I still come back to this lovely, familiar tale for inspiration. Two weeks ago I reached for it because I was preparing a presentation (for a graduate class) about Eleanor of Aquitaine, and reading about her life stirred memories of this book.
If you can find it, read it!

This is a book that deals effectively with re-incarnation involving the Plantagenets of England. The Knowledge he has and the nomenclature is astounding. There are terms that haven't been used in a thousand years. I had read it in the '70's but had to re-visit it because of a recent trip to England ( Nottingham and Southwell) The Minster cathedral there is 900 years old this year and I could feel the History. All of the Plantagenets had been there and Cardinal Wolsey ( I sat in his jump seat)- Amazing. I would heartily recommend this book for anyone interested in reincarnation or 12th century English History.

About the Author

Mike J.�Stabler is�Senior Research Fellow at the�University of Reading; his principal research has been on the environmental impacts of economic activity focusing on the tourism sector, published in journals and books. He was joint author of the original edition of this book.

Andreas Papatheodorou is Assistant Professor at the University of the Aegean, Greece, and Honorary Research Fellow at the Nottingham University Business School, UK. His tourism research focuses on competition, pricing and corporate strategy in air transport, cruising and travel distribution and has been published in international academic journals.

Prior to her death in 2006, Professor M.�Thea Sinclair was Director of the Tourism and Travel Research Institute (TTRI) in the Business School of the University of Nottingham.

The second edition of Economics of Tourism is a welcome update to a classic text. The authors provide as complete a review on the subject as can be found anywhere. This is an outstanding guide to an under appreciated and under studied area of economics.

About the Author

Much like Drazen Petrovic, Australian Todd Spehr left his homeland to pursue a basketball career in the United States. After a successful collegiate playing career, by age twenty-five he was coaching at his alma mater and covering professional basketball as a writer.

Spehr graduated from Central Christian College in Kansas in 2006. His writing appears in both international and US basketball publications and prominent websites, including ESPN and SLAM. He currently resides in Australia with his wife, Yolanda. Drazen is his first book.

Incredibly detailed insight into the life of this amazing sports man. Really well researched, the author has clearly spent a long time to ensure this book becomes the authortative literary piece on Dražen's life.
only improvement could be use of Dražen's native alphapet throughout the book so that, for example, he is 'Dražen Petrović' not Drazen Petrovic...and 'pujac tricu' (shoot for three) is 'pucaj tricu'.

Simply amazing. Great job by the author , he made a really deep research and put a lot of work to this book and it payed off. Should be mandatory reading for every basketball player specially from Europe. There is no better role model than Drazen Petrovic.

Not the Top Book on Craps

I have enjoyed reading all of Frank Scoblete's craps books, "Forever Craps," "Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos," and "The Craps Underground," and I respect his judgment as a gambling authority. But I have to disagree with his five-star review of this particular book.

The book is written by someone who has just learned to practice a controlled throw having taken a class from golden touch and the book is therefore the early judgments of someone who really doesn't have a full grasp of the technique of dice control as would someone who has been involved with the skill as would Sharpshooter and Scoblete. These are the thoughts of a novice and as such you have to take them with a big grain of salt. In another year his thoughts might be different.

Maybe writers stick together and that's why Scoblete gave the book such a good rating. There is a tremendous amount of fluff in the book about dice challenges between Wong and unbelievers that are truly boring and comments throughout by people who are not themselves controlled shooters. Who cares what these people think? They don't know anything! Their ideas and opinions are worthless but they do take up space in an otherwise somewhat skimpy book.

If you want to read a book on precision dice shooting, then get Sharpshooter's book before you get this one.

A must have in your craps library

You must own this book if you are considering dice control!!! Stanford Wong is giving you info not trying to you sell something else. His practice tips are spot on and of course the math is perfect.

A good starter if you're new to advantage craps play

This was the first book I read on precision shooting and advantage craps play. At a time when I was ready to give up on craps as hopelessly random, this book drove home the basic concepts of precision shooting and advantage play. The advice paid immediate dividends only a month after reading; I realized consistent, improved results on my throws, and was able to classify and bet smartly on other players. As a result, I'm now enjoying the game much more and seeing improved dollar returns.
The key is that it delivered the concepts in dosages that I could digest as a newbie. This made it less daunting to get started on practicing/training at home. Also, the book gave me the "hooks" upon which to hang the more expansive knowledge I'm now getting in books such as the "Mad Professor's Crapshooting Bible", and "Beating the Craps Out of the Casinos". I honestly don't think I could handle the Mad Prof if I hadn't read Wong first!
All that being said, I thing Wong could probably use a better ghost-writer or editor to help him organize the information a little more logically. You may find yourself jumping around this book from section-to-section.
Also, be warned that about half the book is spent on "front-line" tales that, while somewhat entertaining journalism, are less educational about how to get the job done.
So, I would classify this book as Advantage Craps Play 101, and let readers know to plan on shopping for deeper follow-up information.
