When she began her work prison reforms had not taken place. She played a key role in reforming prisons and making bringing laws to treat prisoners with dignity and respect. She personally demonstrated how prisoners can be successfully rehabilitated. She also played a key role in the abolition of Capital punishment for crimes less than murder. She intervened on behalf of thousands of poor women convicts who were transported to Australia. In a period of three decades, she and her army of volunteers met nearly 12,000 of the 25,000 young poor women convicts who were transported to Australia. Her name is Elizabeth Fry the daughter of one of the founders of Barclays bank (One of the biggest banks in the world).
